Starting May 3rd, First Friday Art Walk will have some company. After a year at the Butler Bandshell, the Silent Discos will return to the entrance of Lithia Park, in the hopes of having greater integration into the First Friday festivities, and helping to support local businesses.
Entering its fourth summer, Silent Movement International hopes that a more centralized location will help patrons enjoy both the Art Walk and Silent Disco, by improving range into Downtown Ashland, thus helping support the local economy.
Sponsored by Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission, Silent Movement is dedicated to creating family-friendly events that build community and celebrate diversity.
Silent Discos in the park creates a safe container for all ages in a scenic setting. One of the few places you will see teens dancing alongside toddlers and elderly, all celebrating through movement to sound that only they can hear!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Silent Discos have existed for over 20 years in Europe. Fairly new to the US, they are a great way for community events to occur without disturbing those around them. It is "silent" in the sense that only those participating can hear the sound, and it is silent to those who are not. And don't worry, we don't play Disco. Silent Discos utilize RF transmitters and zero-latency wireless headphones, allowing patrons to all hear and move to the music in sync with one another. We have three "channels" of live music that can be switched to on the headphones. Two channels of live DJs, and our "kids channel", created by our sister-project Synths For Kids.
The events happen from 5-11pm every First Friday, May through October, weather permitting, and are all-ages, and kid-friendly. We ask for a $5 donation, and ask that you bring an ID to verify your name when we rent you a pair of headphones.
We hope to see you this summer and stay tuned for more epic announcements!
